Group Swim Lessons
The Ridge offers year-round group swim lessons for members, non-members, and students of all abilities! Instructors work with small groups of students based on swim level. Our Learn-to-Swim Program is structured to promote water safety skills, correct stroke technique, and personal development within a fun and safe environment.

The Pollywogs class is tailored to infants and toddlers who require a parent to be in the water with them. These sessions are crafted for children who are in the process of gaining confidence and enjoying themselves while acquiring fundamental water skills. Our instructor will guide parents on introducing their child to the water in a positive and enjoyable manner, incorporating water games and teaching introductory safety skills.
FROGS
Standard ages 2-3 Yrs
The Frogs class is customized for toddlers who need a parent to join them in the water. This class focuses on practicing more advanced skills and is ideal for children aiming for greater independence in the water. Our instructor will assist parents in teaching safety swim skills suitable for this age group, all within a positive and engaging environment. Children in this class should feel comfortable submerging underwater and floating on their back with support.
CLAMDIGGERS
Standard ages 3-5 or kids 6 and below who have never had swim lessons, or who have limited experiences in the pool
This class is for children with limited or no previous swim experience. Children will learn basic water and safety skills through games, songs, and fun! The class goal is to become comfortable in the water.
A successful Clamdigger will be able to do the following:
Bubbles from mouth and nose
Bobs-Rhythmic breathing
Supported back float
Rhythmic kicking
Supported jumping in
SEAHORSES
Standard ages 3-6 who have had some experience with the water, and those who can complete all Clamdigger skills
This class is for children who are able to attempt floating on front and back with assistance, or who have been through our beginner swim class. Our goal is to learn proper breath control, float using a barbell or similar flotation tool, jump in the water, and be able to fully submerge head comfortably.
A successful Seahorse will be able to do the following:
Streamline glide
Head lead back glide
Streamline kicking
Head lead back kicking
Intro to rolling over
Supported side breathing
TURTLES
Standard ages 4-6+ who are comfortable going underwater and attempting to swim independently
The Turtle class is for children who have been through at least two sessions and can comfortably submerge, as well as float using a barbell without instructor assistance.
A successful Turtle will be able to do the following:
Independent swimming and rolling to breath
Supported catch-up freestyle with side breath
Elementary backstroke
Backstroke
Dolphin kick
OTTERS
Standard ages 5-8+ who have completed all Turtle skills or those who comfortable floating without assistance
This is an intermediate class for swimmers who are able to swim using basic freestyle arm strokes with their faces in the water, and who can float without assistance.
A successful Otter will be able to do the following:
Catch-up freestyle with side breath
Backstroke
Intro to breaststroke kick
Streamline dolphin kick
SEALS
Standard ages 4+ who are able to swim full lengths of both backstroke and freestyle, or those who have completed all Otter skills
This is a class for experienced swimmers who are able to swim a minimum of 10 feet using both freestyle and backstroke. Seals must be able to be comfortable swimming where they are not able to touch bottom, as most of the skills worked on will be in the deeper areas of the pool.
A successful Seal will be able to do the following:
Freestyle 10 yards
Backstroke 10 yards
Intro to breaststroke
Intro to butterfly
SHARKS
Standard ages 6+ or those who have passed all other levels of the Ridge program or an equivalent swim program
This is an advanced class for those who are able to swim at least half of the pool on both their front and back, as well as perform 4 competitive kicks.
A successful Shark will be able to do the following:
Freestyle 20 yards
Backstroke 20 yards
Breaststroke 10 yards
Butterfly 10 yards
Intro to flip turns
YOUTH SWIM CLUB
Standard ages 6+ or those who have passed all other levels of the Ridge program or an equivalent swim program
This program is designed for kids who have completed our Level 6 “Sharks” group swim lesson program or who can swim 20 yards of freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, breaststroke, and dolphin kick. The program is designed for kids ages 6+ (or by instructor approval). Each lesson will focus mainly on stroke mechanics and increasing endurance. Class length is 45 minutes.
